"Postcard from New York"
Feb2015, 8" x 10", Acrylic on canvas panel

My love affair with New York began after a "red eye" into the city for St Patricks day in March of 2000.  I boarded a shuttle bus from JFK and ended up at an Irish pub to have an Irish breakfast, complete with Guinness, before heading out to the parade in a light snow.  I spent days exploring, getting lost, being swept up in "herds" of people, learning to hail a taxi, maneuvering the subways, and having some of the best food ever.  One of my favorite memories from the first trip was waiting on the stairs at the entrance to the subway from the world trade center as thousands of people were leaving work; I was the only one going up the staircase on my way to the 107th floor to have a drink at the "Greatest Bar on Earth."   I have been madly in love with the city ever since and even visit via webcam on a regular basis.

Over the years, I have slowly added to my "New York Collection" of artwork and they can be found throughout my blog:  "New York" 2008"Conversations Overheard" 2012, "No Time to Talk" 2012, "Lost on the Train" 2012, "A Courtesan Visits New York" 2012, "The Handless Maiden Visits New York" 2012 and "Summer in New York" 2013.

Originals can be purchased from my Etsy Shop, reproductions in various mediums can be purchased through FineArtAmerica and the print on fabric can be purchased through my Spoonflower shop.

"Song of the Cicada"
Feb2015, 8" x 10", Acrylic on canvas panel

Over the last few weeks I have been reminiscing about childhood summers growing up in Alabama with seemingly endless days spent wandering through the woods barefoot.  After I finished this painting, I immediately thought of one of my favorite spots to sit in the shade listening to the Cicada's.

Originals can be purchased from my Etsy Shop, reproductions in various mediums can be purchased through FineArtAmerica and the print on fabric can be purchased through my Spoonflower shop.

“...if we ever reach the point where we think we thoroughly understand who we are and where we came from, we will have failed.”   - Carl Sagan

"What we call the beginning is often the end.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
The end is where we start from."  - T. S. Eliot

After finishing the thirty paintings in thirty days challenge, I am now trying to catch up with my 2015 art journal in The Original Documented Life Project™ which is a free online project offered through the The Art to the 5th™ Academy™ .   I came across these two quotes in Maria Popova's wonderful blog Brain Pickings.
